.I've been meaning to take a picture of one of these signs for years. I know the purpose behind them is quite serious, utility poles and high tension power lines are certainly nothing to trifle with, but the wording has always amused me. I mean really, how can you not laugh at a warning that says "Danger of Death!".
.
Head over to Mary the Teach's for more ruby red goodness.
.
Yes, you're right: it is funny, in a way.
ReplyDeleteHmm.
ReplyDeleteI once had a similar Norwegian sign posted in my hallway.
High tension. Danger of Death.
(Guess I was the one with high tension.)
From Felisol
Seems the danger of death is all around these days. Especially in your part of the world. So put beside that, I suppose it really is pretty amusing.
ReplyDeleteYears ago I took some friends cross-country skiing. On a golf course. One friend was a bit freaked by the death warning on his ticket. You would have to be very talented to die on that flat track.
ReplyDeleteAmusing sign.
You're right, Robin, there is something amusing about the sign. I think it's a combination of the blunt, to the point, "Danger of Death" coupled with the exclamation point (which generally makes serious things look silly) and of course the stick figure. That stick figure always gets me. In all seriousness, good shot.
ReplyDeleteWell I can certainly understand why the signs would be there.
ReplyDeleteI think mostly they are for children who might not really comprehend the danger.
signs can be very interesting and I for one am glad you decided to get this shot!!
Happy RT:-)
High tension wires that even just look scary -it's one of those situations you just go well, duh! :)
ReplyDeleteMines on my photoblog: Carletta’s Captures.
So true, so true. It is odd how we live in such close proximity to so many things that could hurt us if we didn't give them proper respect. Even in our own homes I guess.
ReplyDeleteGood funny sign for Ruby Tuesday, I also like the red mixer in your header too ..
ReplyDeleteThanks for making us smile on Ruby Tuesday. It is a very interesting photo. Be careful!
ReplyDeleteI'm just wondering what encourage people to climb up these high tension power lines. Since there' are people silly enough to climb, this sign remains useful, ...maybe.
ReplyDeleteFunny post, Robin.
I don't participate today, but I'm just taking a glance : )
Funny choice of words for the warning :P
ReplyDeleteThose are the only words I can read, anyways!!
ReplyDelete:)
Happy Tuesday!
No, I don't get it but I must be humourless.
ReplyDeleteGreetings from Finland !
Hmmmm...I think they got their point across;)
ReplyDeleteNever saw such a sign here. Thanks for sharing ;p. Best wishes
ReplyDeleteI know those always make me take a second look and go --Ok I got the message:)
ReplyDeleteAhh yes, because "Danger of Pain" sounds so barbaric....
ReplyDeleteI have a shot of a beach warning sign somewhere that shows the water about to chomp down on some poor stick figure sap who had the bad idea to Turn His Back On the Ocean!!!!
Funny, indeed.
I am thinking that's the idiomatic translation .. which is more effective then:
ReplyDeleteBubbala, touching isnt a good thing.

ReplyDeleteSorry Montay, you don't get to waltz into my (blog) home and piss on my carpet. Any and all civilized discourse is welcome here, whether or not we agree. Coming over here and saying I make you sick is most certainly not, no matter how defective you think I am, which is why I have deleted your malicious and hostile comment.
ReplyDeleteIf you have something you are genuinely interested in discussing you will be welcome to do so. If you can't abide by that I will have no problem at all banning your ass. This is a troll-free zone.
Have a nice day :).
I get the fact that electricity is dangerous. But this sign is written as if a bunch of American lawyers brought their litigious skills in the design of this sign.
ReplyDeleteYou would think that the normal buzzing sound emanating from the wires above would scare trespassers away all by itself, but probably not!
i am lol at this picture becuase i took almost *exactly* the same shot (shadows and all) when i was in tel aviv on thursday! i agree - the wording is funny.....
ReplyDeleteaw hehehehehe. thanks for sharing this photo!
ReplyDeleteHa Robin! Couldn't be a more formidable warning! Happy Ruby Tuesday to you! :)
ReplyDeleteI think these signs are hilarious. If only people heeded them...
ReplyDeleteYes, the translation is funny sounding. ;-)
ReplyDeleteI keep forgetting to take a photo of an establishment that's "shut" instead of "closed."
