- Sunday is the start of our work week here in Israel.
- We work from Sunday to Thursday.
- Schools and stores are open a half-day on Fridays, but most adults now have Fridays off
- Giving them, but not their children, a two-day weekend.
- Many parents use that time to run errands.
- Since I work part-time from home, I try to do my errands during the week when it's less crowded.
- My husband and I like to go out to a cafe for breakfast on Friday mornings (another popular use of the time).
- My little suburban city boasts a disproportionately high number of good cafes.
- There are 4 within walking distance.
- There used to be 5, but one has now turned into a generic, mass market Italian place. Blech.
- It is supposed to be COLD and stormy most of this week.
- By the end of the week, it is supposed to get down into the high 30's (low single digits Celsius) by the end of the week - unheard of in Tel Aviv!
- I've had enough of winter already.
- Bring on spring.
- My house is a tip.
- And I have about 4 loads of laundry to do today.
- I also need to get to the gym.
- And work.
- Which means I really need to stop writing this inane list of miscellanea and get cracking.

Otherwise known as a post in bullet form...
I have been reading your blog for a couple of weeks, I feel like a heal for not noticing you were in Tel Aviv. I'm sorry...
ReplyDeleteAt least everyone starts their work week on Sundays there here, I start work on Saturdays and hubby and kid start theirs (school and work) on Sundays. We only have one day rest day to be together.

Misty - don't worry about it, it doesn't always jump out from my posts. I see myself as a blogger, not an Israeli blogger.

I just recently found your blog and found it so interesting to read bout your life! When all you see is the horrific news stories, it is hard to imagine that there are any average families doing normal family things in your part of the world. Thanks for sharing, I will be back! So interesting!!!!

ReplyDeleteThanks for a glimpse into life in Israel. I am so fortunate to have found Sunday Scribblings which has introduced me to several new cultures. I have traveled much of the world but through SS I have learned more about Australia, India, and now Israel, which I have not had the pleasure of visiting in person.

ReplyDeleteInteresting insights into day to day life in Tel Aviv. Doesn't sound all that different from anywhere else. Four loads of laundry is pretty universal in any culture, isn't it?

ReplyDeleteI often wonder why we live our work weeks the way we do. Secretly I want to meet the person who decided on a 5 day work week and a 2 day weekend and give them a piece of my mind... Very interesting to hear about your life as a Mum in Tel Aviv!
ReplyDeleteA delightful post - as always. This is a great spot to visit. A friend was recently in Tel Aviv but I haven't heard much yet... Seems like we all have the same 24/7 but not always distributed the same!
ReplyDeleteI was surprised to learn that it can get so cold in Tel Aviv. I guess that I had a stereotype that it was just hot and deserty there. A friend of mine is staying in Jerusalem for a few months. She posted some of the most beautiful photos of your country. Israel is at the top of my wish list of places to visit.

ReplyDeleteThat does sound like weird weather for your part of the planet. Of course this morning in eastern Canada I opened the door to let my dog out and discovered a steady fall of ice pellets. Yippee! Made for a slo-o-o-w-w bus ride to get to work, that's for sure.

ReplyDeleteI try and run errands before Friday as well. My husband and I always joke about the Friday crouds... Israelis are especially pushy on Fridays which is ironic because they should be starting to relax. We also can't stand weekend drivers... They are always trying to put your life in danger because they are in such a hurry to get places! It's such an interesting country!
