The Day the Rain Stopped

.
I shot this a few days ago just around the corner from my home. This flat is in an older building that has certainly seen better days, but it stood out for being the only one given over completely to laundry, right down to the bars on the windows. Everyone else in the neighborhood seemed able to make do with their normal laundry lines. If they had dozens of socks drying somewhere they weren't hanging in their window like so many potted plants.
.
My more charitable half is reminding me that the reason I was out shooting that day was because it was the first sunny day we'd had after days of heavy rains, so perhaps they really did need to do that much laundry that quickly, but my other less charitable half thinks...
.
Probably just as well not to tell you what my less charitable half thinks.
.
Look here for more monochrome madness.

  1. It makes an interesting shot so I guess that's the upside to clothes drying in the window.

  2. Certainly a bit different. People waiting on their socks.

  3. Maybe, a large family ! But they have no more place for one more family member : ) At least, B&W shows that every one in that family will get clean laundry.

Very funny picture, Robin. I love when it shows odd day-to-day things.

First if I enlarged it, I realize the socks. ;-)

  5. I have to say, that's something you don't see every day. This could just as easily have gone on Odd Shots!

But "different" is cool. And of course, now I'm ever so curious to know what your less charitable half thought.

  6. Why do some socks go missing in the wash ? There is always one that escapes .. I have a cupboard full of odd socks.

  11. At least we know that some of the socks match. I've only got two kids left at home, and I still have a bag of "lone" socks. Where do they go? One of life's true mysteries!!!

  12. What a fun shot! So it's not just me with lots of odd socks! Perhaps we should set up a Single Sock Exchange in order to solve the problem.

  14. wether the shot tells a story, or urges you to come up with your own...I love to ponder. Good job!

  17. I love that shot. My husband would actually prefer that I dry his socks like that, he accuses our dryer of shrinking them all. But the day I have time to individually hang out all his socks will be the day I stop blogging ... :)

  20. Great photo - your neighbours are energy efficient and they've inspired you to give us some Monday joy...that must be a good thing. Do they know their socks are being discussed all over the world? :-)

  21. I didn't think you HAD a less charitable side, Robin :-)

This photo reinforces how effective photography can be at making even the everyday seem incredibly powerful. There's a story in this forgotten corner of the planet. You've found it.
