Click to enlargeIt rained steadily here most of the week (great for this arid land, crappy for my mood) so between that and the relentless Saga of the Sick Kid (see pretty much any of this week's blog posts, I was reduced to talking about nothing besides my child's illness. I even bored myself.) photographic opportunities have been pretty light on the ground. I did manage to grab this shot on a super-speedy (15 minute) photowalk around the neighborhood, during which I also realized that my camera's light meter was completely malfunctioning. Had I tried to listen to what it was telling me this, and all of the day's images, would have been completely black. Luckily common sense won out and I used setting that made sense, rather than the idiocies the camera was suggesting.

The camera's now off at the shop and I'm trying not to lie moaning in the corner, curled up in the fetal position, at the thought of being without it.

I know what you mean. I've turned into somebody that never leaves the house with out the camera. It's addictive!

ReplyDeleteThe sensor on my camera is putting a dark blotch in the sky whenever it is a deep blue and I keep postponing having it sent away for sorting. Must do . . . must do . . . must do!

I know what you mean Lucy - my sensors were a mess as well and I kept putting it off. I'm having them cleaned this week too, as long as it's already in the shop.

Streets captured..I don't walk along- thanks for the view of your world. For us, we've been having a bit of a drought..very dry for the Islands but I'm enjoying it.

ReplyDeleteYour sense made sense Robin. All camera meters lie to you at one time or another. Google "The Ultimate Exposure Computer" by Fred Parker. It's a great article that you can download and print out for reference.

Guess my last comment has been overtaken by events. Oh well, maybe they'll discover that you've set it to spot meter or something and you'll be embarrassed but not poorer for it.
ReplyDeleteI must say though, this is an exceptionally well exposed shot for not having the meter to give you a baseline. Very nice!
I know how you feel Robin with it raining and being cooped up inside. it rained most of last week here in the California desert. On Thursday when it slowed down to a sprinkle, I grabbed my umbrella, camera and tripod and venture out in the rain to capture some photos. it was definitely worth it.
