We're at the tail end of a long Rosh Hashana holiday weekend here in Israel. Tomorrow everyone heads back to school and work and to add insult to injury the powers that be are forcing us to set our clocks back tonight, yet another reminder that summer is rapidly drawing to a close. Personally, I'd rather look at this shot taken on Doubletop Mountain and pretend it's still the height of summer. Only two more Summer Stocks to go after this one, play along now while you've still got the chance.
Since I'm actually posting this on Saturday, 9/11, please also take a few moments to remember all those killed on that terrible day nine years ago, and to remember that violence is never the answer, and terrorism neither legitimate nor forgivable.

Love that bark.
Have some awesome Days of Awe.
I see similar things here, also. Fantastic photo subject!
Lovely photo; a very powerful evokation of walks in the wood.
Ketiva ve'chatime tovah!
Beautiful photo Robin - makes me want to go for a hike before it rains. We've been seeing signs of Fall here too, in the Southern US. Cool nights, shorter days and no more tomatoes at the farmer's market. I find myself looking forward to this time of year. I guess I'm in the mood to hibernate!

It's sad to see summer drawing to a close, isn't it? I'd be furious to have to put back the clocks- we've about 7 more weeks here till that happens. But at least we can live it for 2 more weeks with SSS, so tanks for hosting it.
Beautifully put re 9/11 and terrorism, Robin.
Only two more Summer Stocks?
:-(
I'm a huge woods person. Just love this shot. Love all the twigs and bark and leaves in the foreground.
9/11 will never be far from anyone's mind on this day. But today was my sister's wedding, which she hopes will bring joy to a date tinged with sadness.
I think the memory of 9/11 is still fresh in our heads. But maybe 3 decades from now it will just be a page in the history books. Love quality of the log photo.
I always favour the pictures with texture and a bit of green. You have such a wonderful eye.
You have to go back one hour already ! Here it is the last weekend of October. Then it gets dark very early ! I will never understand that, because you have to consume more ligth one hour earlier ! Where is the saving ?
I wished your government would think like you and some people too.
I think that 9/11 is still very much present. I think of all these firemen with burnt lungs and no financial help and others badly injured. All the soldiers who died because of that in Irak and it continues in Afghanistan and still Ben Laden is always joyfully alive !
A happy Rosh Hashana to you!
Your moss growing on an otherwise darkened forest floor is actually quite profound on this memorial of days.
Love this .. sorry not to be playing this week .. I honestly confused myself about what day of the week it was ... my set to post post didnt post ... but it was due to me (for once) not blogger
This is the first time I played along. I love your picture because it is so natural.
I was really dreading the end of summer...but it's kind of nice to get back to a routine. And of course school is always a good thing for us! I need help from the experts.
I agree about your views on violence and terrorism. This is a great meme and I missed it completely. We have summer all year round (30-36 degrees centigrade) with sudden rains and occasional storm visits.
i love the texture.
I don't know that you'll ever find anyone who can give you a clear and compelling reason to observe DST.
This is an awesome spin on the summer theme. It gets me out of the prototypical sun-sand-surf mindlock I seem to fall into whenever someone mentions "summer" Good to remember that there's more to it than just the beach. (Yes, I said that out loud.)
Oh, and it's a cool photo too.
And thanks for posting my link. I remembered to blog it, then promptly forgot to link it. Duh. ;-)
The clocks turned back already? Wow... the things I forget after not living there for a few years.
