Non Sunday Non Scribblings

sorry
no prompt this week
no flights of written fancy
to fill my time
and distract me
from the tasks at hand

I will have to
wash the dishes
and do the laundry
and sweep pistachio shells
carpeting the patio
after someone
(no names, but starts with "J")
fell over a garbage can
at a party last night
and then return the extra chairs
we borrowed from the neighbors
never dreaming that
even they
(sixteen in all)
would still not be enough

I'll have to
pay the bills
and gather scraps
of a future Rembrandt
lying scattered on the floor
read an actual book
(Someone To Run With)
(yes still)
maybe watch tv
and perhaps
just perhaps
put even that aside
and just spend time
with my family

on second thought
not so bad
after all

  2. In my world the life you are describing is a flight of fancy, especially when described with such warmth and subtle joy. You have magically captured a sense of family, of home in this wonderful poem. It is has warmed my heart on a lonely day with its charm and it's skill. thankyou,

  5. Lovely poem. I'd rather be spending my weekends writing and reading other's blog during my downtime. But all those other household tasks will still be awaiting me when I put down the laptop. Damn dirty dishes!

  13. Laughing so much here as guess what just happened at my home? I reached up to grab a box of coffee filters and a tub of pistachios fell off the shelf and emptied itself all over the damn floor. Parallel lives LOL? Sweep, sweep........

  15. I REALLY enjoy the domestic details in this poem. You let them do their work and have their impact. It's a very sweet and lovely poem.

  16. Sometimes it is nice just to spend time doing "homey" things with family. Last weekend I never had internet access the whole weekend, it felt like the end of the world for a while, but it turned out just fine, we had some lovely family time. It made me realise that I should do it more often.
