Taken somewhere in Acadia National Park during our recent trip to the States, probably by the Seawall tidepools given the sailboat in the background. Some of these cairns mark the way for hikers, but I think this one was put together by a passing family. Hopefully since it wasn't directly on a trail no one will confuse it for one of the official ones.

Look here to see who else is viewing the world in black and white this week. It's Monochrome Monday's one year anniversary, come join the fun.

Looks remarkably like a wee caricature person. Well observed.

I love the artistic expression some folks put into these creative cairns, and am sad when park rangers must take them apart so some dimwit does not get confused and walk off the side of a cliff thinking s/he is following the trail. Note the delicate balance of the little, rounded rocks -- it looks as though the whole thing could come tumbling down if just one of the small stones was removed. Thanks for capturing it! And yes, I think that is Seawall. It is a popular place for such creative cairn construction!
ReplyDeleteI love the photo and especially showing it in black and white. :)
ReplyDeleteOne more rock and down it goes... Great shot!
ReplyDeleteLooks like a person to me
ReplyDeleteWe see lots of these along the seawall in Vancouver, Canada. People enjoy trying to make them as difficult as possible to stay together. Lovely shot and I like how the sailboat is sort of misty looking in the background. :D
ReplyDeleteI think it looks like a person, too--one with a hat! Nice shot!
ReplyDeleteI see these a lot but never have my camera with me. So lucky you to spot one AND get a shot.
ReplyDeletelove that photo! how hilarious!
ReplyDeleteI think I see a cartoon face :)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful rock formation.
ReplyDeleteGreat shot!
I love those cairns. I made one at the side of a lake in canada and it was remarkably difficult. And mine was only tiny!
ReplyDeleteReminds me of Rob's inukshuks
ReplyDeleteCool shot
That is very cool!
ReplyDeleteI love how the textures in stone show up in black ad white.
ReplyDeleteI love Acadia National Park.
Rocks and stones often are perfect in mono. This as well. Lovely.
ReplyDeleteWe see these on the beach quite often. I find them all just fascinating. Great b&w shot.
