Go fish!

I'm trying something a little different for this week's Ruby Tuesday image. I've been playing with obsessed with textures the past few days and knew I wanted this image to look more like it was taken through the dusty and scratched glass of an old aquarium, rather than just of the (just as old and even more dusty) mobile hanging in a corner of my son's room. More fishlike, if you will, and less "garishly painted wooden object", and of course since it's red it was the natural choice for Ruby Tuesday..What have you tried lately to step out of your photographic comfort zone?.
Wow! It took me a minute for my eyes to realize this wasn't a real fish. My gaze focused on the stripes and I wondered if the color and glow had anything to do with the tank lights -- then I noticed the fish's eye and peripheral details, then I noticed the eye hook. With a more life-like fish you could have pulled this off.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I'm kicking myself for not cloning out that eye hook. Not that I'm trying to fool anyone, it just would have made a more compelling image that way.
ReplyDeleteI really enjoy seeing what others are doing to improve their photos. At first glance, you had me, Robin. Keep up the good work. ;-)
ReplyDeleteWell-done Robin. Great effect.
ReplyDeleteKind of like Nemo floating around. At it looks real, too. I wonder if it could be used a bait, it seems to offer depth along with its lively colors. Excellent!
ReplyDeleteI might have been hooked, but I read the text before I looked at the picture closely! I don't do a whole lot of manipulation on my photos generally, except for cropping. That can improve things a whole lot!
ReplyDeleteI like the composition very much! And, it really looks real...very nice Ruby Tuesday!
ReplyDeleteI think you achieved your goal.
ReplyDeleteIt's kind of surrealists -- like you don't realize the fish isn't real at first
awww what a cute fish! is that nemo?:)
ReplyDeleteu may view mine if u have time
Very creative...
ReplyDeleteHow about an ornery little fella for Ruby Tuesday?
Creative photo and well done. The most I have done is crop the photos or resize them.
ReplyDeleteVery creative Robin!
ReplyDeleteLooks like Nemo in the background.
Wish I hadn't read the other comments - I wouldn't have noticed the eyehook. :)
I wish I had better software to play with. Maybe Santa will bring me something.
I love your fish photo. You're inspiring me to try more different things.

I love the murky background
ReplyDeleteand the perspective
I've been playing with cropping
Hope makes the most amazing expressions and I'm learning how to better capture faces
I like what you did - it does look like it's swimming, even with the little hook.
ReplyDeleteOh good try! :) Yeah it's fun to experiment with photos.
ReplyDeleteHappy RT!
My RT entry is here.
Oh that is nice.. I have never been good on working images like that..
ReplyDeleteThat's a mobile? It looks so real....so aquarium-like!!!
ReplyDeleteMy R T is posted now. "I came, HE SAWED, we conquered". come see. Here is the permalink to my Tuesday post.
Ooh what a beautiful fish!

Adding that mask and trick or treat bag to the Waiting, Impatiently photo is as outside my comfort zone as I can get photographically ... I just want what I see to be what you see ... I know I am, for an outgoing New Yorker, very conservative about my photos
ReplyDeleteLove the Shadow effect in the back. They look great. yeah winters coming here I will have to be more creative:-). You did great.
ReplyDeleteDesert Greetings Robin,
ReplyDeleteThe aquarium needs a few bubbles. :) I think you did a really good job. I have been experimenting with cutting people out of photos and putting them in front of new digital backgrounds.
Wishing you a picture perfect day!
Patty
I got down on the ground to take a picture of dead leaves for today. I'm getting pretty stiff in the knees so that wasn't a very comfortable position for me :)
ReplyDeletelove your fish
Fresh coffee at my place. Come on over & we'll talk photography. ;)
ReplyDeleteHi Robin, you had me fooled!!! The fish looks real .... a great job done for today's post.. Baba
ReplyDeleteLike others, you had ME fooled! Marvelous photograph ;-)
