  2. Seems a harsh and desolate landscape. I'm wondering if, in colour, it suddenly becomes springlike and cheerful?

  3. Wonderful shot. The rocks and water are both so great in monochrome. Wishing you and yours a happy, healthy New Year to come.

  4. You have got a fine composition here that gives both framing and depth. Seasons greeting's to you, too!

  6. I was thinking it should be kind of desolate out there but the way it is presented, it's inviting and not desolate at all. Maybe it's all the holiday goings on and the need for a quiet and lonely place. Thanks for taking me there, Robin. (Btw, it wasn't all that cold that day - in the mid forties - and those young Amish boys have lots of hot blood coursing through their veins, I'm sure.)

  7. Interesting that Lucy finds it harsh and desolate - I sighed and thought, 'Beautiful...!' Meanwhile, I'm more apt to find desert landscapes to be foreboding, even with their neutral or warm color palette.

  10. Oh my. Oh, my, my, my.

This is the second shot today that's instantly brought Silly Wizard's "The Fisherman's Song" to mind.

And that's a good thing. A really really good thing.

    Awesome!

  11. The encrusted shells give a wonderful patina to the ring of rocks that surround this gorgeous curve of a bay, Robin. there is an olde-worldy feel to your contribution this week.

Health and happiness to you and yours as we enter 2010.

  12. What a magnificent, relaxing place. I can imagine the silence, the sound of the waves... Curious detail of the pines over the rocks. My best wishes to you and the ones you love.

  13. Lovely landscape. I like the way the monochrome brings out the definition in the rock.

  14. I agree with the calm, peaceful crowd. Beautiful in monochrome, and probably also in color.

  19. I think it's both calm and somehow sad, possibly because the tide seems to be out.
I'd love to clamour over those rocks, and also to find out what the distant land mass is.
    Lovely shot, Robin.

  22. The perfect shot for mono. I like the different shades of rocks next to the lighter shade of water.
