.I'm not quite sure what it is either, other than to say that it's a detail from a blue one of these (mucked around with a bit by me):

.Whatever it is I liked its shape, it's got great lines. There were several of them, in various colors, scattered around the Dead Sea's Ein Bokek beach. Looking at them, they appear to be air vents, but for what I'm not sure. Maybe a bomb shelter? (Standard issue everywhere in Israel, no big deal, though usually they don't come with sculpted vent hoods.)

ReplyDeleteRegardless of what they are, I agree with you about the interesting shapes and lines. Had I been there, I would have wanted to photograph them also. I love the blue color. And is the other silver?

It's actually kind of cool to see something functional turn into art, assuming they are air vents that is. Someone down there by the Dead Sea has a live imagination.

Great shapes, abstract but also curved as if to represent waves in the water. Is it part of an installation along the beach?

ReplyDeleteI was at Rutgers on Monday, on the engineering campus, and we decided that strange sculptures help you remember where you are. Especially if you are in a place where everything looks the same (can't say that's true of the Dead Sea area).

ReplyDeleteI like both images, the air vent makes me think of an Elephant, your interesting version is fascinating - love the colours. Photoshop or painted?
ReplyDeleteBoth :) - it is in fact a blue "whatever" similar to the gold (or is it silver, it's hard to tell in that light) one, but the background that day was actually a pure white sky full of dust and haze. I toned down the shine of the blue as well, it was a bit blinding in the sun.
