I collect cookbooks, and I love bringing a new one home as a souvenir of my travels. Here are 13 really intriguing recipes from a new cookbook I just got in Vancouver - The Salmon House on the Hill Cookbook by Dan Atkinson. It's chock full of great-sounding salmon recipes (obviously), shellfish, meat, decadent desserts... Sadly, good fresh shellfish is unbelievably expensive and hard to come by here in Israel, so some of the best sounding recipes are going to have to be real "special occasion" food. They sure sound delicious though. Here, don't take my word for it. See for yourselves:
- Crab, Potato and Corn Cakes, with Tamarind Sauce and Mango Coulis
- Smoked Sockeye Salmon Cheesecake
- Chili-Cumin Dusted Scallops with Tomatoes and Blue Cheese Toasts
- Grilled New York Steak with Black Truffle Oil, Tarragon Butter and Brown Sauce
- Pork Medallions with Pecans and Maple Bourbon Glaze
- Pan-Seared Duck Breast with Blueberry Cognac Sauce
- Rum-Soaked Salmon with Apple Ginger Puree
- Vancouver Island Sidestripe Prawns with Chili Almond Pesto
- Scallop Ravioli with 3-Cheese Alfredo and Basil Pesto
- Asparagus Glazed with Orange Hollandaise
- White and Dark Chocolate Mousse Pie
- Fresh Fruit Salsa with Balsamic Vinegar and Black Pepper
- Sun-Dried Cherry Scones
Ummm... Now I'm hungry. Somehow I don't think my cornflakes are going to appeal much this morning. And as usual, if you want any of the recipes, let me know.

Yummy! Thanks for sharing :-)
Mmmmm!
Now I'm hungry!
I would get hungry if it were a little later, but I just have my morning coffee now !
Oh, those sound yummy! :) Especially the rum-soaked salmon! I hope you can try out some of these recipes.
Oooh Vancouver! That's my neck of the woods! Well, we're eight hours away, but close enough!
Sounds like a great cookbook! We had wild salmon tonight for dinner in fact! :-)
I don't know which intrigues me more: Pork Medallions with Bourbon or the Mousse! So are you going to publish the recipes and the reviews when you cook these things? And, if you learn how to cook them, will you come for a visit?
Number 1 sounds soooo good - great list, when's dinner? LC
Oh the rum soaked salmon one sounds awesome. I'm going to have to look that one up!
Mmm, I started drooling at the first one and haven't stopped yet. Wow, that's a hell of a cookbook. I am trying to run up an Amazon order for free shipping, so ...
And yes, #2 doesn't like to have her hair played with. Thus, my freaking out over a stupid, stupid BUN.
If it makes you feel any better Susan, mine freaked out today over the mere *suggestion* that perhaps it would be easier to put on her (pool-mandated) bathing cap if I put her hair in a pony tail, rather than just trying to stuff it all in...
I'm a baker myself... perhaps you could cook and send the meals to me? ;)
Hey that's funny, I'm cooking my piece of salmon right now. I love anything Salmon. Oh, and I love cook books so much too that I published my mom's recipes in a book. She loves me.
They all sound delicious! Hope you enjoy all your Omega-3!
Man do they sound GOOD! I'd love the recipe for Rum-Soaked Salmon with Apple Ginger Puree and the Fruit Salsa with Balsamic Vinegar and Black Pepper!
Oh, I like collecting cookbooks too! :o) Whenever we travel, I always try to find one.
My Knight is the only one that likes eating seafood. I'm a meat and potatoe type of gal. Which is kind of funky that I don't eat seafood. You see, I was born and raised in Miami, Florida. They have GREAT seafood there. Well, I'm a junk food junky too. LOL!
Take your time answering the tag. I know that you just got back home. Looks like you had a wonderful time. :o)
Hope you have a blessed Thursday!
Wow! I'm going to have to google the recipe for Fresh Fruit Salsa with Balsamic Vinegar and Black Pepper. That actually sounds like it would be amazing, as strange as it seems.
Happy TT! (I'm hungry now!)
I am ALL about smoked salmon! Could you send me the recipe??
Congrats on your new cookbook! the recipes sound wonderful! I always get very hungry when I read recipes, regardless of the time of the day...
Could it be you didn't include the crepe link or did you mean I would find one going through your archives?
thanks anyways!
I have the same problem here in Tokyo. Though it's gotten way better and much easier to get certain ingredients, there are still many recipes where it's impossible to find the ingredients or even if I do they are so expensive as to make it not worth it.
Meat is another issue. It's usually cut in small portions. Many US recipes call for big servings of beef for example. I just can't get that here.
Yummy sounding recipes though.
