Who invited Charlton Heston?

What a storm last night - flash floods, houses nearly washed away, people evacuated, power outtages, and one poor little girl actually drowned when her family's car was swept away (not in our town).

It is WET here - my parents' town actually made the evening news last night due to the severity of the flooding. Thankfully the only damage we suffered here was a wet basement, a very eroded driveway and a one-hour power failure. It could have been a LOT worse - the runoff in the backyard became a full-fledged brook - complete with whitewater - and a number of neighbors access roads and driveways were completely flooded out.

It's still raining on and off today, but at least for the moment there are no major storms so a few of the grownups took the kids over to the nearby nature center which has plenty to offer even in rainy weather. My mom is actually a docent there and will be taking a tiny little owl out on the trail today so that should be fun for them. I stayed back to work, so I really should stop blogging now and go do that...

And if the weather gods are listening - hey you up there, we get the point. You're strong. You're powerful. You can make it rain. We get it. Now how about some damn sun already?

PS Janet, if you're reading this, I hope your cousin came through the storm alright. I'm not sure exactly where she lives.

Wow Robin. Scary stuff. I'm glad you and yours are ok though. Very sad to hear about that little girl though. I couldn't imagine. Take care and I hope for better news next time. And pictures of course. :)

And what do you mean "stayed back to work"? Isn't this vacation??? Go have fun. Get a raft and ride the white water or something!

We did have a few hours of very well-timed sunshine yesterday afternoon (before the not-so-proverbial floodgates opened) when the kids and I were able to meet up with a very dear internet friend who was heading home from vacation but all the photos I took are of our meetup so not really for the blog. Hopefully the sun will eventually come out and I'll be able to show you all what a gorgeous location we're in.

And no, this isn't entirely a vacation for me. I'm still working 15 hours a week while I'm away. That's the thing about working by the hour - no work, no paycheck. I couldn't have taken a whole month off without pay, so working a few hours each week (I usually work closer to 20 or 25) enabled me to bring the kids over for a much longer trip. They're having a blast at Camp Grandma while I slave away LOL.

Feel free to send it our way. My edamame's all but dead and my lawn is very, very brown.

Hope you guys are having fun Stateside, regardless.

Interesting that you have so much rain. Down here in Jersey, sun has been shining a lot.

So sorry about the little girl. Sad story.

We'll join you on the storm front. Apparently monsoon season started - so our rains are probably much warmer than yours!

Our crazy weather from earlier this week must have headed out your way. Sorry about that:)

Hoping for lots of warm sunny days ahead. Glad you are all keeping busy in spite of the weather!

Hope it clears up for you for the rest of your vacation! Those flash floods are certainly scary... I'm so sad for the little girl.

Hope it's over soon! The floods that is, not the vacation :)

And the title? Hilarious!

Not sure if you're in my neck of the woods, but the weather has been nutty! I'm waiting for locust and frogs to drop out of the sky.

I think I'm a few hours north of you FOM.

I hear ya, Robin. Not sure where in NE you are, but here in Central NY we've been blasted with unseasonably cold & rainy weather.

We're horrified to lose the last month of swimmin' weather!

Last night was especially horrid with thunderstorms and lots of rain, though no flooding here, thank God!
