Topsham Fair Antique Tractor Pull

.
I have to be honest here, I found this incredibly slow-moving event to be even more boring than watching paint dry (what can I say, I'm a city girl at heart), but my husband was intrigued so while he was watching I grabbed my camera and passed the time my own way - grabbing Ruby Tuesday shots. The subtleties of the sport were completely lost on me (again, that paint drying thing) but I was apparently in the minority, the locals were following the action closely and cheering on their favorites.
.
All those shiny red tractors did make for some fun images though, no doubt about that, and of course I couldn't ask for a better subject to share with you all for Ruby Tuesday.

Loved the umbrella on this one, now that's riding in style -

So what do you think? Are you an antique tractor pull fan now? I admit that I wasn't converted, but I did enjoy the photo opp, and the chance to share it with you.

LOL! I loved your comment on the speed of the event. But you did get a lot of nice "red" shots.

Robin, I think you signed Mr. Linky BEFORE I actually got the HTML loaded in my posting window! Ha! Great RED shots. You do what I do. I'm always taking a photo op when I'm out with family...

I noticed in the shots there were mostly men (maybe ONE woman) were enjoying the sport! :)

How funny, I saw that I was first but it just looked like you'd just put up the post to me.

And yes, the spectators were mainly (not exclusively, but mainly) men - in t-shirts, with short hair, clean shaven, and wearing baseball caps. There was definitely some conformity going on.

I am no tractor fan either but I enjoyed your photos.

Well, Robin, truth be told, I'm not a city girl BUT I have never been to a tractor pull. LOL But I'll go anywhere they'll allow me to take my camera. ;-)

I attended my first tractor pull last fall and I blogged about it. I loved it - especially the old guys and their very old tractors competing against the newer models here. It was their spirit that amazed me. Here everyone goes - men, women, children. Last year one woman participated and she won her class.
Terrific shots!

They're pulling a big sledge with a weight on it.

Yep, I've been to tractor pulls here in Connecticut.

I've also been to oxen pulls (no diesel fumes). But now they are probably no longer politically correct. Oh well.

Happy Ruby Tuesday!

Sometimes when an event is boring trying to capture an interesting photo can really convert one's view of the event. I like your photo of the men at bottom the best. Interesting how they find it so interesting.

I guess there's a sport for everybody, huh? I have nothing against tractors, and I think antique machinery is really cool. to look at. To take photos of. But spend all afternoon watching them drag stuff around? Mmmmmm...aybe not.

You're a good sport in addition to being a fine photographer girl.

The things that people do for fun in the Downeast...hot-rod tractors look great in ruby. Machinery and men, a classic combination!

Having endured a few tractor pull events, these shots cracked me up. After the first time, I took a novel and sat at the top of the bleachers and read.

LOL! Am a city girl too and I can really just emphatize with your feeling regarding the speed of the event :D anyway, you did get a lot of reds there.

My RT is up too.

Well, I've never been to a tractor pull, but there is a draft horse show near here every year, and they have pulling contests. I liked it the only time I went, but, of course, I like horses!
Neat shots, I like the red hat band.

Many years ago ToonMan and I were spending the weekend at a friend's home in CT. We went to a tractor pull .. boring doesnt begin to qualify it .. there was also pole climbing and some other boring to women events ... I too spent the time snapping ... I wonder where those old 35mm shots are ..

LOVE the flag shot!

Now that shows COUNTRY at hand but slow is nice. Love the pics alot of red there.

I like the "country show" feel in your pictures, but agree with you re paint drying enthusiasm for parades..as my brother puts it "as boring as listening to paint dry".
Isn't it amazing, though, how Ruby Tuesday can change a boring event into a photo op?

I love all the red, girl. Now, I'm not fond of tractor pulls, but I love old farm machinery. It has its own artistic grace. Your artistry with the photographs was well worth your boredom ;-)
