Tonight we will light the final candle on the Hannukah menorahs and enjoy the collective light of their 27 candles (8 plus a shamash, or helper candle, for each of three menorahs) before packing them away for another year.

.It's been a great holiday despite the rain and occasionally intervening work crises (both mine and my husband's - so much for early nights). There were latkes, and then more latkes, and then still more latkes (ours, friends' and the neighbors'),

. . .
and jelly doughnuts, both edible and not
.and soccer tournaments (they won 11-4)

That's how a holiday ought to go.
I've got a soccer goalie, too. Too funny that we share this trait, also!
Ken yirbu. Really a post full of beautiful blessings.
Happy last day of Hanukka Robin!
Nice pictures:-)
Happy Hannukah, Robin!
Did I miss where you explained the 3 menorah custom? What lovely photos and what a delightful time you've had .. me too .. tho not as many latkes!
great wrap up of the holiday. i ate more latkes this year than i think i've ever eaten!!!!
Over already?? It just started! I hope it was the most awesomest Hannukah ever. So far. And may the coming year bring you only happiness.
Shalom my friend.
And GO ITAI! Awesome!
There's no custom for three Daryl, it's just that each kid usually makes their own in school and wants to light that one, and Jay and I have the one we've been using since were were first married.
Of course now that I've said three we'll only have two tonight - we've managed to misplace the last box of candles and have to borrow two candles from the neighbor to at least be able to light the kids' menorahs. Oops. (Drove myself damn near batty looking for it too.)
Happy Hannukah!
I helped a friend make vegan lakes and we substituted apple sauce for the eggs.
Robin, I love, love love latkes! If that's your husband, he's a cutie! I'm glad you enjoyed your Hanukkah now on to Christmas for me! To tell the truth I'll be kinda glad when it's all over... :)
I'm gonna ask something stupid I suppose. But I just don't know the answer. Do the candles stay lit for 24 hours and do you have to replace them? It's sure is beautiful and what a wonderful Holiday this was and sounds like yours was excellent. Happy Hannukah or as I have seen on another blog Channukah. :)
There's no such thing as a stupid question Thom. The candles only burn for about 40 minutes max, and they leave melted wax all over the damn place, which is why my menorahs are always on a tray lined with tinfoil :).
how fun that the kids each have their own Menorah. Thanks for explaining the tinfoil--I've seen it on a few blogs. Looks like your festival was enjoyable.
Happy last day of Hannukah, Robin, to you and all the family.
I've learned loads from reading your blog.
You pack the Menorah away for another year, but the wonderful memories tucked in your heart can always be readily accessed.
Happy Hannukah, Robin.
Thanks for sharing your Hannukah joys with the rest of us ;-)
Hugs and blessings,
Awww thank you my friend :)
Hope you had a wonderful holiday!
Sounds like it was a great holiday!
Ours was relatively quiet, in terms of celebration. We did have a fun 7th night, though:

I really loved your wrap-up :)
Clearly, a great time was had by all!
I had a pretty terrible Chanukah but your photos lit it up a bit. See you Saturday, I hope.
I am glad that Chanukah was a beautiful one for you, my friend. As evidenced by these pictures, I know it was.
Lovely, Robin. Thanks for the peek into your home life at holiday time.
