Click to enlargeSally would have to use up some serious frequent flyer miles to sell this particular collection though - these shells represent some serious gathering efforts on several continents (mostly Maya's, but her parents helped her out a bit when they (we) were in Ireland, so that we could show her that the shells on that beach were a bit different than the ones she collects here on the beaches of the Mediterranean). They're tiny, too (I'm no fool, if I'm filling my pockets on a long hike they're going to be small and easy to carry), many quite a bit smaller than the nail on my pinkie. It took quite a while playing around with my closeup filters to get a shot crisp enough for me (and yes, I was using a tripod - my kingdom for a real macro lens...).

We won't be heading back to the beach for more that soon though, the jellyfish are out in force right now. We'll avoid their painful stings and hang out at the pool instead, the beach can wait until we get back from the States at the end of the summer. Luckily, with Israeli weather being what it is, we'll still have several more months of beach weather after the end of jellyfish season.

Israeli kids finish up school this coming Wednesday and then summer will finally begin in earnest around here, and I'm sure you won't be surprised to hear that the chaos meter is off the charts as end of the year frenzy sets in.

I love sea shells, and I'm always finding them dotted around the house on the edges of shelves and places, along with 'interesting' stones!
Jellyfish are not funny, so I'd say the pool is good! Enjoy your last week of school, ours was this week - yes! yes! yes!

Robin, I know this is going to sound odd, but those great macros I get are done with my long lens. I have to stand far away, but then I sight tem in close. It works so well I am less and less disappointed about not really having a macro lens.

The shells look so nice against the dark background. The ones around here (eastern Canada) tend to be purple or blue-ish or greyish.
As for what I'm up to this weekend - currently I'm watching live footage of crazy protests in my husband's home city of Toronto (bizarre!!) And I went to a First Nations Pow Wow in Halifax this afternoon - SO fabulous!

Very sharp photo of the shells. I miss collecting sea shells. Perhaps I will have to take my kids on a little road trip to the beach sometime this summer.

Quilly, I do use my zoom lens for most of my macros but it doesn't begin to get close enough for the kinds of shots I'd like to be taking. In fact, I've often been known to put the closeup filters on the zoom lens to try and get closer but you lose a lot more that way. (This shot had the filters on my regular kit lens.) Using the zoom is better than nothing but it still isn't a real macro lens and can't do what that one does.
Sigh, still saving my pennies...

I love seashells of ANY kind, but we don't have any around here...hopefully we'll be able to go somewhere over the winter to collect some!

Robin, magnificent shot! I have a collection of sea shells from the south shore of Long Island and the Jersey shore. Guess what I'll be trying today with my table top tripod? :)

i thought of you when i was snapping shots on the beach and realized that for the first half of the time the camera was set on "macro" - oops.
gorgeous shot! I'm getting a bit of my motivation to shoot back...lots of beach pics, a new poppet to shoot & my guitar! Soon...
