This old roof frame is part of a 19th century stone building in Sarona, a Tel Aviv neighborhood founded in 1871 by a group of German Templers. These old, dilapidated buildings in the heart of the city were marked for preservation in 2003. The preservation effort involved no less than picking up and moving a number of the crumbling old structures further back from a major arterial street as well as restoring both them and others. A friend and I spent a few hours this morning wandering around the renovations (under construction and not at all pedestrian-friendly, let alone open to tourists, but this is Israel so there was no fence or guard keeping us out. To the contrary, the guard we did see agreed to let me inside one of the sites to photograph as long as I promised to do it safely and quickly without bothering the workers.).
.
The wider angle shots of Sarona included far too much modernity, construction equipment and dust for my taste so most of my shoot consists of small details. (So much dust in fact that I ended up processing this image with a nostalgic type texture to compensate for the fact that the sky was dead white - thank you very much North Africa, you can have your dust back now.) I can't wait to go back once it's all renovated though, what a gem this is going to be.

Wow, lucky you! Kol hakavod!
I love Templer houses but so far I've seen only Jerusalem's German Colony.
You made a very interesting shot.
More, more!
I just love the effect you have created here. The subject matter is attractive, but you've made it look like a painting almost. Its like the roses photos in your portfolio (and shop) somehow the way you have leached the colours makes the picture timeless and incredibly beautiful.
Great shot. I love the texturizing you have done to it.
Your comments about Israeli security guards intrigue me. I like to photograph things and my other hobby is photography both of which has led to several meetings with private security guards who are very aggressive.
has a sort of succah ... love this effect you have been using ..
That 19th century roof against the sky looks great.
So good to find your blog again...whare have you been? Where have I been? Anyway, good capture...love the mood you have created.
Like the others, I love the effect/texture you've used! It's terrific, Robin! Hope you have a great weekend! Enjoy!

What a charming shot. Looks like a painting.
I like the way you processed this. How clever of you to disguise the white sky with texture. I've never tried that...but I will. :)
Looks like painted. Great texture and photo.
Wish you a wonderful weekend:-)
Awesome post! Is that a painting?
Pixellicious Photos
Nope, not a painting - I used Photoshop to add texture (and played around with a few other things).
Beautiful p0st.
the trick you applied to this image is fabulous. great job.
Great shot...and you made it look almost like a watercolor painting.
Must agree, the processing is wonderful. I love the painted effect it gives.
Nicely done Robin!
It's beautiful.Looks like a painting. I love the texture you did to the picture.
This is incredible, Robin. I love the effect. Timeless and beautiful and so well done.

SWF~Dark clouds
The effect is amazing! Love it!
By the way....I meant to tell you that my husband used to live in Ringwood...I believe that's near where you used to live??
I love the way you have presented this and the textures applied.
I often pass Sarona and those buildings! What a great shot Robin!
I love how it looks like a wonderful painting!
it's already a gem, friend. already a gem indeed! well done, lady :)
Robin, this shot is incredible! I love it and the texture you applied! :) I'm working on my Summer Stock Sunday post right at this moment...
This almost looks like it should be a Japanese block print. Enchanting!
Here we'd have been chased away by the guard rather than ushered in. I guess that's the hazard of living in the Land of the Lawsuit. *sigh*
Great work!
