Blood Oranges

.

The color of these deep red beauties always seems to make them taste fuller and more exotic than their common orange cousins, doesn't it?

I love the grungy background. Makes the bloody oranges pop but only in a subtle way.

Blood oranges are delicious, but the name...!!!

A TOUCH OF RED

They say that just one touch of red
Will put big, bold thoughts in your head.
So scarlet’s for you,
And burgundy too,
And cardinal and carmine—‘nuff said!

When I was a child is was feast near Easter time when the blood oranges came with a boat from Israel.
We didn't have "exotic" fruits all around the year back then.
I haven't seen the bloody ones for quite some time, but I always buy Jaffa when they are available.

I always thought oranges were called that because of their colour. Today, thanks to you I have learned that they do come in different colours.

Blood oranges are so gorgeous and rich-looking. They are like rubies in a salad or stir-fry.
