Paper flower in painted pot

I was messing around with the camera this morning (making sure my newly repaired zoom lens works again) and took this picture. I really liked the combination of the rich colors on the pot contrasted with the almost glowing light behind. I'd like it a lot better without that ugly black stripe green leaf sticking out of the pot, but I didn't want to start disassembling Maya's art project and wasn't able to successfully clone it out. Oh well, I still like the shot. Without flaws we wouldn't know beauty, right? (God help us, she's waxing philosophical today - run for your lives!)
.
It is a good metaphor for life though, isn't it? Without an appreciation of adversity we couldn't really value our triumphs or recognize the love and beauty around us for what they are. Isn't joy all the more poignant when compared to its absence? A happy ending weighed against a fate narrowly avoided?
.
Goodness this is heavy for a workday morning. Enough psychobabble, time to get back to work.
.
Actually, not quite back to work yet. It just occurred to me that this little mental romp of mine suits the final Writers Island prompt of gratitude quite well. Off to go link up one last time... Thanks again Rob, our time on the island has been wonderful, but as with all tropical adventures the time must eventually come to leave the island and return to the shore.

I enjoy your interpretation of your daughter's artwork. The white against the brown doesn't bother me at all, nor does the black leaf.

Not sure how your philosophy matches with the photo, but I'm fine with both on their own.

My brain is not functional yet. I just think it's great that you'll now get to remember that project that Maya made forever. :) It also just occurred to me that if I start taking pictures of all those silly art projects the kids bring home maybe I won't have to actually buy a larger home just to store them all.

Well I like the philosophy. Infact, I'd go deeper. With so many people it IS the adversity that moulds them into better people.

Pictures are definitely the way to go - I've been "storing" my kids artwork as digital photos for years now. I only keep a few of the most special pieces and the rest quietly disappear ;-).

Love the photo of a beautiful project created my Maya. And I especially love the commentary. I totally agree. How can we appreciate the beauty if we don't have the ugly to compare it to? Brilliant...as always!
