Jerusalem of Gold

.

.
Jerusalem skies were hazy and dull (unlike the spectacular
flowers) the day of a recent visit, and regular readers here know how much I loathe horrible, white, dust-filled skies (and how far I'll go to avoid them), but the amazing view from the hall did make a valiant effort at distracting me from the gray and the dust.
.
Of course I could have simply photoshopped in a bright blue sky but I really suck at that I prefer the more artistic approach. After a bit of tweaking to and fro I processed this image with the Pioneer Woman's
Seventies action to give it a vintage feel more in keeping with the fabled Jerusalem of Gold (since I couldn't convince my family to wait around for hours to go to the Light exhibit until the setting sun shone golden on the city's ancient stones.
.
I quite like how it turned out, it reminds me of an old postcard.

This is amazing! To me, here, seeing a photo like this drives home to me that its Israel you live in- which may sound really stupid!

That's what I call playing the hazy, dull hand you're dealt. And well played too!

Hot dusty days do make it hard for the photographer..but you captured a wonderful photo of awesome stonework walls and castle.

it looks so cool. i love it. i have become a fan of that "heartland" action in the same set from her. i used it recently on a great photo of my kids with another family's kids, so i can't post it, but it made me so happy just to look at it ;-)

If you had not said it was a current image, I would have believed it was an old postcard! Kudos, girl.

Hi again, Robin. Really interesting and I'm going to be following the links. It's a great photo and I like the effect. I took the info you left about NoWires and blogged it (link is with my name) because it is such a time saver. Thank you!

Incredible. This looks like something out of a book or travel magazine. Very nice capture.

I like it too. I like how there's very little of modern life in the frame. If you ignore the cars in the foreground, it could be ancient Jerusalem.

It really does look like an ANCIENT photo....of old times...

Beautiful look Robin!

Oh, wonderful Jerusalem!! I do not look at the grey sky, hehe, I love it:-)

It reminds me of an old postcard, too. It also reminds me of the prints in my great-grandmother's Bible. So otherworldly yet here-right-now. That is a great shot.

Very vintage. Amazing how you did that.

Thanks for the lutria/nutria info.
The American man with us said (with lots of certainty) that is was a muskrat. Nutria, muskrat --mah ani yoda'at? So I'll go correct it.
