More Old Jaffa Alleys

I never get tired of shooting in Old Jaffa. With views like this how could I?

Jaffa's Hanging Orange Tree

Personally I've always thought it looked more like a peach pit, but what do I know... This iconic Old Jaffa landmark is (thank you Mr. Google) a symbol of prosperity and a reminder of the days when the famous Jaffa oranges were actually grown in (ok, near) Jaffa.

You have to look a bit harder for the red(dish) color this week, but it's there. Sort of. More obvious examples can of course be found over at Mary's every Ruby Tuesday.

Jaffa Arches

If you look carefully you'll see that these arches no longer have a roof over them but they still serve as doorways into a quiet, shaded corner of Old Jaffa. Just a few feet away an ancient olive press stands baking in the sun while here all is cool and inviting.

Old Jaffa Alleyway

I took a much needed sanity break to recharge my creative spirit yesterday and headed back to Jaffa, camera in hand. Winter is still refusing to show it's face but the magic of Old Jaffa was well worth braving the 90+ degree weather we've been having. I even got the chance to hand out a bunch of business cards to some tourists while I was there. Click here to see the first in my latest Jaffa series, or click on the tab Jaffa to see images from various creative wanderings.

JPIX - The I Can't Believe It's Nearly Hannukah Edition

My wish to you - may love and light fill your home and heart not just at Hanukkah but always.

Why can't I believe it? Because here we are in mid-November, Hannukah just a couple of weeks away and yet it's about 30 degrees outside. Good grief...

And now, without further ado and in no particular order whatsoever (i.e. in whatever order I managed to insert the photos and links), my very first attempt at hosting JPIX. Please excuse any formatting weirdness and the lack of those cute columns that everyone else seems to manage so easily which steadfastly refused to obey my command despite the stream of family-unfriendly words which escaped my mouth as I tried. Yes, I am the queen technodunce.

Wish me luck...

Giveaways, Goodies and Carnivals, Oh My!

Lots of fun things happening around the blogosphere this week -
.
You can enter to win a GORGEOUS, and I mean seriously stunning, new tallit from Galilee Silks over at A Mother in Israel's - a $300 value and they'll ship it to you no matter where in the world you are. I think my favorite one is the Sea of Galilee tallit, such beautiful colors.
.
Changing tacks from Judaica to Christmas, fellow etsy seller Christie Cottage is giving away a really sweet little wall hanging over on her blog.
.
And then there's there's this - over at Ni Hao Y'all Stephanie is hosting 30 DAYS of giveaways - a new one each day (and you just never know who might pop up over there)!
.

Ni Hao Y'all

.
And shifting gears again back to Israel and the Jewish blogosphere, yours truly is going to be hosting the upcoming edition of JPIX, the Jewish photography carnival. It's coming out on Sunday so if you haven't sent in your links yet you still have a chance.
.
If hard hitting, rough living, no holds barred rock and roll fiction is your thing head over to West of Mars, where at least 50% of the royalties from your purchase of any of Susan Helene Gottfried's books about Shapeshifter, her (fictional) heavy metal band will go towards a fantastic organization that helps put instruments in the hands of underprivileged kids. And if you make a donation to them directly via the link on her blog you'll be entered into a raffle for all sorts of free books. Great stuff, and for a great cause too!
.
Anyone else have anything fun they'd like to add? Drop me a line and I'll add your giveaway or contest too :).

Brand New from Around the Island Photography - Photoverse Prints!

Big things are happening at Around the Island Photography this week and I can't wait to tell you all about it! After quite a bit of behind the scenes work I am delighted to tell you all that I have just launched a brand new product line - Photoverse Prints, faith-based and inspirational photography.

These fine art photographs are a beautiful way to share your faith and inspire others - and they make a wonderful holiday gift idea too. Imagine how meaningful it would be to give someone a gift created just for them, one that speaks directly to their heart in the most personal of ways.

I'm offering my fine art photographs printed with meaningful verses from the Christian Scripture or any other verse, poem or quote you finds meaningful. I've got a number of ready-made prints for sale and am also offering a custom-designed offer - your favorite quote or verse on the photograph of your choice. (For my Jewish readers, a Judaica section is already in the works - and remember, a custom Photoverse print can have any quote you like on any of the photographs in my shop.)
.

Photoverse prints wonderful framed and would make a really special Christmas gift, especially with a verse chosen especially for its personal meaning to the recipient. Stuck for a gift idea for someone special? This might just fit the bill.

Click here to see the new Christian Art section at Around the Island Photography, and I'd be most grateful if you'd consider forwarding this on to anyone you think might find it of interest.
.
 .

Photoverse print selected, I must admit, primarily because it was red, but I do love the quote.

Life is for living

It's hard to sit here, just two days after RivkA's funeral, and blog as if nothing happened, as if we haven't just lost one of our brightest shining stars, but if there's one thing that RivkA taught us it's that life is for living. Each day is a precious gift that should be treasured, not squandered. So yes, I am grieving for the loss of my friend, and no, my world will never be the same without her in it, but at the same time there is a life out there to be lived, a family to love, friends both here and absent to treasure, and a world full of beauty to discover. RivkA somehow always managed to focus on her blessings, not her burdens, and by doing so inspired countless others to find the best in themselves, to be the best that they can be. That is RivkA's gift to me, and I will honor it as I know how - by loving my family and my friends, by telling them - YOU - so as often as I can, and by continuing to seek out and create beauty in the nooks and crannies of creation.
