Neve Zedek Window

I haven't had too much time for photography the past few months but for the sake of both my muse and my sanity it's high time to MAKE the time, so yesterday when I found myself with a few hours free I grabbed my camera and my car keys and headed into Tel Aviv for a walk around one of my very favorite neighborhoods. Neve Zedek is a study in contradictions - old and decrepit, new and gentrified beyond the price range of mere mortals, sparkling new residential towers full of glass and curved lines (which would look fabulous in a more modern neighborhood but are sinfully out of place in this one).

Here's a glimpse of the older side of the neighborhood - look fast, it probably won't last much longer...

Beautiful, sunshine shades in this.
It looks like an oil painting.
Hope all well with you, it's hard to get time for hobbies, even harder for blogging!
good to see you back!

Have missed you! Lovely shot...sad to see old neighborhoods overpowered by crass development. Yet, those old neighborhoods are often so inefficient by every modern standard of hygiene, occupancy, power usage, etc. Everything except community.

This does indeed look like wonderful painting, an image weathered by place and time. I like it very much, and I like seeing you reappearing here even more! Don't be a stranger, come an share a note or two on life now and then, you have been missed!

That is an awesome find, warm and sad, all at once. I really need to find some time to stroll around the greater TA area! Where do you recommend I start?

This looks like it has been here forever, in a way that you can't say for the glass and steel towers

This looks classic - not just the patina, but the practical things like shutters that actually shut that work as decorations on modern homes. Built in a time without computers yet the knowledge of the true craftsmen built them to last for centuries. Nice capture!

This reminds me of a gorgeous picture of yours I had on my old computer. Before it died and took it with it.

You have a wonderful eye for not just the beautiful but the texturally stunning as well. You are a true artist. my friend.

Robin, visiting again to tell you my eye surgery was actually cataract removal. I was not a candidate for lasik either, and I had no idea that removing the cataract would do the same thing -- 20/20! I'm about 20 years ahead of time for the cataracts though; doc says it's due to my blue eyes and really poor Rx...

So if they keep saying you're 20/20 with your glasses or contact and you know that there's still a haze around everything, ask for a cataract evaluation with a cornea specialist.

This is lovely, vibrant and filled with wonderful textures and tones. It is the type of scene I would try to capture, also.

Mmmmm. Those colors define happiness for me. I feel like it's criminal to knock down old buildings in Israel ... I mean, aren't they like 7000 years old or something? ;-)

Hi Robin,
I'm always amazed at the artful images which one can make of run down areas. This image is quite painterly!
