Summer Stock Sunday - Loon on the Big Lake

We're having a wonderful time here in New Hampshire enjoying family, watching cousins pick up right where they left off a year ago, eating ourselves silly (yikes) and staying away from the computer so we can really enjoy this gorgeous New England summer. This little corner of the world truly is paradise - at least for 2 months of the year ;).

Today's agenda included watching Maya and my niece in a play (skit) at theater camp, peanut butter fudge ice cream (and no I didn't share, the kids had huge scoops of their own choice of flavors (and by the way, cotton candy ice cream is in fact as awful as it sounds)), and an afternoon of boating on the big lake, capped off by watching this beautiful guy diving for his (her?) dinner.

Today especially I would like to be reminded that there are those that still view being good neighbors as a moral imperative. That see coexistence as a virtue, not a threat.

Window to the Sky

We've been having unseasonably late but welcome if you're anyone but me rainstorms the past week so our skies haven't been much to look at, but we're happy for how green they're making the land for a little while longer before the dry browns of summer return. On a recent walk the skies were a drab white but the leaves were kind enough to provide a natural frame.

White on Black

Several as yet unblogged (stay tuned) projects have been consuming my time lately; I haven't had much chance to shoot for fun and it's been even longer than that since I've had a chance to participate in Carmi's wonderfully introspective Thematic Photographic project. This week's theme of curves felt like a good match for this closeup of an antique crocheted tablecloth. It's one of a series of family heirlooms I'm shooting for a friend, who's using them to illustrate a book she's writing about her family history. Can you imagine the hours that must have gone into making this, one painstaking stitch (is it called a stitch in crochet? I'm hopeless with a needle, or crochet hook, myself) at a time. Not only a family heirloom but a reminder of another time, one that existed in a completely different world.
