St. Peters Square (and a very watery run-in with disaster)

.
Caught this group of nuns walking through the square in front of St. Peter's Basilica in the Vatican.

In other news, in the "you can't make this stuff up" style that is my life, I'm slowly recuperating from the trauma of having not one, not two, but THREE hugely serious and expensive - and completely independent - plumbing disasters within the space of 24 hours! I'm too exhausted to share all the details - just picture me standing on the landing of my flat at 7:30 in the morning, wrench in hand, IN MY BATHROBE as the whole freaking main water pipe for the building literally came apart in my hand and started flooding me, the landing, the elevator shafts, the stairwell, and half of my neighbors who'd come running to help (note: this was NOT the part of the pipe I was attempting to close to stem the disastrous leak that was currently flooding my kitchen and living room with scalding hot water - nor was it the large somethingorother that failed later that day and sent thousands of gallons of water out into the parking lot, leaving 32 flats without water for hours, AGAIN. At that point we gave up and went out for dinner.). This was seriously beyond ridiculous, if I'd been filming a sitcom they'd have rejected the plot summary as too farfetched! (Oh and we had houseguests too, who'd just arrived at 2:30am the night before. Welcome to Israel, please grab a mop. Thankfully they're dear friends who just took it all in stride - far better than I did in fact, by episode number three I lost my mind and just sat there laughing hysterically at it all.)

Jay comes home from a business trip tomorrow, and not a moment too soon...

And we thought the Hot problem was bad. Oh Robin, this water disaster is awful. And dangerous sounding too. Umm...you didn't stop to take pictures, I guess? With your wrench in hand you probably looked ready to strike someone (the someone responsible for all the bad plumbing).

But the nun pic is fun. Marching on St. Peter's, they are.

Try to stay safe and sane, dear Robin.

I feel like this is a disaster waiting to happen in any of our old buildings in NYC, ours included. If you have any advice as to what to look out for before it happens, please advise! (I am serious!). Love the photo of the nuns marching on St. Peter's.....

Margaret - check the connections where the pipes join. If they look rusted and disgusting call someone in for a look. At least one of my neighbors have already called someone in to replace theirs before the same thing happens to them. The plumber who was here said they're all bad, it's just a question of time...

O.M.G. I can't even imagine ... Glad you had good friends around to laugh like a crazy person with. (And maybe have a few drinks with!)

I do love the shot -- nicely monochrome with just those bits of blue/green. So nice of the people wearing red and pink to stay mostly hidden.

Holy crap!!! And of course hubby was on a biz trip, that's why it happened. :( Sounds like something that would happen here...wait, it did, just not to the WOW extent as yours. Dude.

Murphy's Law that when Jay's out of town, right? Hopefully it's the end for a while, since those things usually happen in 'threes' - and you've met the quota. ;) Love the nun shot!

Great photo. I like how the gray/white of the nuns matches the columns - they seem to be part of the architectural scene.

Sorry to hear about your plumbing troubles. That sounds terrible, I hope it is all sorted out soon.

And thanks for the kind wishes for the upcoming show.

A great photo, as always, Robin...I love the color aspect of it too.

Wow, you've got a great story to laugh about later...much later...with the flooding issues. Hope it all gets straightened out without much more ado. That's really frustrating, especially since it appears to have been faulty from the beginning...

Oh Robin, in a land that counts water as a tremendous blessing, you were overflowing. Irony of ironies.

And speaking of ironic, the middle nun -- the way her head cover flaps back, and her robe drapes, you could almost mistake her for a Bedouin man! Hmm...Bedouin man surrounded by nuns.

Sorry about your water disaster and so glad you had friends to pour you a glass of wine to recover.

Sorry but had to laugh at Sukhmandir's comment!
Oh poor you Robin, I'm glad you're "out of mind" is the laugh setting, i'm wired for screaming when out-of-mind.
Your nuns photo is just brilliant! Love it!
Hope order is restored now.

You POOR thing! There's something about uncontrolled water that makes me want to scream panic and run simultaneously, so I can't imagine how you managed. Probably laughing hysterically was the best thing to do under the circumstances...

Great photo, not so great ordeal.

Love the nuns photo. There was a nun living next door (she was the sister of the father of the family) when I was growing up, but she always wore black.

Sorry for enjoying reading about your awful ordeals. You have a great way of telling a story.

Too bad the photo isn't appropriate for JPiX.
