Rock Hyrex in His Den

.

These little guys were not shy at all this weekend. Here's another one peeking out from his den. Cute little furballs aren't they, though if you enlarge the photo you'll get a look at some very sharp looking little teeth.

More of our desert oasis weekend can be found here, including a full color shot of one of this guy's relatives.

Looks a bit like a sharp hamster.
A good little model.

It does look like a curious little critter.

It is similar in appearance Aileni, but quite a bit bigger. This one was easily 1.5 feet (about 40 or so cm) long.

My little one finds it so cute.
We never had seen such little animal, in fact. I wouldn't have approached my hand close to it, though.
Sounds like a perfect family week-end, discovering desert life !

Cute, yes, but I'm keeping a distance. He doesn't look any too trusting and animal bites can get really nasty.

But he makes a fabulous model!

It looks like a smart rodent ... is it friendly?

Nice shot, Robin

Great shot. He looks like he is daring intruders to get too near.

It looks like he came out of his den especially for you! Ouch...those are nasty looking teeth...

I've never seen one before, he looks cute, but ...
Not sure.

He was cute, but he's still a wild animal so I wouldn't advise getting close enough for him to feel threatened. This one was taken from a good bit back with a zoom lens ;-), though there was some foreign tourist there feeding it straw. Not only was that stupid and not necessarily good for the animal it also interfered with my photo!

Interesting creature. Not a big rodent fan, despite the fact that many claim my dackels are nothing more than doggy rodents! LOL!
Great shot!

He looks cute but I'm not tempted too stroke his fur. Lovely shot.

He's a cutie! Though, I won't be zooming in to see the teeth. I'd rather remember him as a sweet little thing. LOL

Gorgeous detail! Enlarging the photo makes it even more stunning. He does have teeth, doesn't he?

No kidding..enlarging it you can see what bite he could give! Reminds me of the Mongoose here- Nice one-
