Back. Phew.

Due to some kind of technical snafu blogger went down in Europe (including Israel) for over NINE hours today. Nine hours during which my blog and every other blogspot blog disappeared into the black hole of Google's "link not found" page.

Nothing like a major outtage to drive home how very important your blog is to you, and how much of an idiot you are for not backing it up until now...

Breathe, Robin, breathe.

Welcome back, Robin. I'd stay & chat, but I have to go back up my blog!

Nine hours -- I'd die! I'm sure of it.

I love the ending of this post, breathe, Robin, breathe!
Technophobe here has no idea how to back up a blog, so if it goes down, I will be completely lost.
Ah, more to learn, Mimi, more to learn!

The blogger guy I was in contact with on Twitter told me how to do it Mimi, it's easy. Go to "customize" on your blog's header bar, then select "settings". From there choose "import/export". To backup your blog choose export and select a destination location and hit okay. It will probably be a fairly large file, mine was 27.3MG.

I'd hate to think what size my blog would be. Nearly four years worth of brain matter. ;) Still, I'd probably better do it before I get that light-headed dizzy feeling when it all goes kablooey.

That happened to me a few weeks back,it felt like I lost something very important, and oh,the feeling of relief when it came back! Yesterday my blogs were fine but heard there were problems.

Oh man I would need Atavan if that happened to me. There was an incident a while back where Blogger fell under a DOS attack and Google was sending every link to every bog to an error page but I could still access my dashboard, so I knew it was still intact.

But obviously I need to take further precautions.

I'm a little surprised that the backup file is so large. If you were backing up images too I could understand, but those are hosted elsewhere, so you should only be backing up the markup code. Of course, if you actually write your posts I suppose there would be a fair amount of text... especially if your blog has been around a while. But I do most of my writing in other people's comments.

Oh snap. I bet you're backing up the comments too. Of course. That's where all that comes from. Yeah, makes perfect sense now.

Okay, gotta go run and back up. Thanks for the reminder.

Won't that really slow down my computer to back it up so much. Must talk to my IT specialist. Unfortunately, he's asleep on the couch right now.
