Summer Stock Sunday - It's Worldwide Photowalk Time!

..
.
What a fun day I just had! Today, Saturday July 24th, was (or depending on when you read this perhaps still is) Scott Kelby's Third Annual Worldwide Photowalk. After a few logistical complications a photography enthusiast friend and I joined the Tel Aviv walk again this year (we'd planned to attend the walk in Jerusalem's Old City but it was not to be, I'll have to get back there on my own this fall), where we spent a delightful morning meandering the streets and alleys of Tel Aviv's picturesque Neve Zedek neighborhood. Founded in 1887, Neve Zedek was one of the first neighborhoods to be built in the then-brand new city of Tel Aviv. The neighborhood has seen ups and downs since its early days but is today home to a thriving (and very upscale) collection of shops, galleries and beautifully restored period homes. One of Tel Aviv's architectural gems, it is a true visual feast for the photographer. No matter how many times I visit there's always something new to catch my eye - and my lens.
.
It will take me quite a while to sort through and process all the images I made today (suffice it to say that for the first time ever I filled up my entire memory card and had to borrow one from a fellow walker, but my newfound love for shooting in RAW is mainly to blame for that - and rest assured a larger memory card
will be purchased as soon as I finish this post!) but here's a teaser to whet your appetites:

This year's Worldwide Photowalk included a mindboggling 1,111 walks with over 33,330 walkers taking part - what an amazing experience to be a part of and a highlight of my summer again this year.

1887? I would have guessed that Tel Aviv was way older than that. By Israeli standards, that's practically brand new even now.

Sorry to hear that you couldn't make the Jerusalem walk, but I know you'll bring back mind-blowing stuff photowalk or no photowalk. Seriously.

I need to see if there's one of those happening around here next year. And if there isn't who might be useful in implementing one. hey, we got stuff here.

I love this mural. Even the graffiti is old school in your part of the world!

Jaffa - which is today part of the greater Tel Aviv-Jaffa municipality - is far older, Tel Aviv is the newer upstart - the first modern Jewish city :).

Sounds like a great day, even if you couldn't get to Jerusalem.

I'm not too sure about that mural...

Can't wait to see what you filled up your memory card with!

The mural is quite intense. The arm that looks like rib bones at the bottom is rather unnerving. Lots of broken imagery, including leaves falling from the olive branch - it appears the urge to offer for peace and to cool the animal urges is weary.

Very provocative.

Incredible, Robin! We're getting 14 new chairs for the pool. We have too few on a busy day like Saturday or Sunday. You didn't say what the cool captcha word was...

Appetite definitely whetted, Robin!
Whatever "in the Raw" means (camera setting?) I like it a lot!
The Worldwide Photowalk sounds great, must try to remember it for next year.

interesting image - I wonder who the artist is. Is it 'tagged' in the fashion of grafitti artists, or left anonymous? either way, it's always nice to acknowledge talent when you run across it!

I didn't see a tag, but the outer edges of the mural (this was part of a much larger whole) were pretty degraded.
