Roar, sort of

.
Saw this on a nearby home a while back. Both the knocker and the door were painted the same flat boring shade of off-white, no contrast at all. Bar a tiny bit of rust it was a monochrome shot just the way it was, but I converted it to true black and white and upped the contrast a bit to give it some definition and keep the knocker from fading completely away into the background. I wish I could remove the ring from the lion's mouth though, the poor thing looks completely worn out from holding it there for all eternity.

He does look like he's grimacing, doesn't he?! Great photo, Robin! I wonder what people he's seen come and go through that door.....what secrets he could tell.

He is very weathered, nice contribution and we also have one of those bread making machines too.

Oh this is exceptional! Roar maybe. "Rawr" definitely!

He does look a little tired doesn't he?

Great find - all lion knockers I've seen are usually iron black - you caught great contrasts and details in this one!

The knocker that roared...

Enlarged, it looks as though the lion is biting so hard on the ring that it's mouth is bleeding. There is a lot to see when enlarged. Nice!

It does not look flat on your capture of it. Well done.

Great shot and I know what you mean about the poor lion with the ring in his mouth. He looks worn out.

He does look fed up holding that ring.

Love the ice lolly photos too.

This is like the modern big cat version of Atlas.

Like this very much. He's not tired, he's in the present and eternally strong. Thanks for your visits!

I like it. I also like what Sara says, turning the lion into one in the midst of an effort that is ongoing and a picture of strength. Much better than the poor old thing that was my first impression.

Nice seeing and capturing this beast! I hate hate hate it when people paint over hardware. (Thanks for letting me get that out.)

I love old door knockers

I find myself attracted to door knockers too. This one is very striking. I agree with Slim about painting over metal hardware like this - bad choice.

Looks like he has a bit in his mouth, which is so painful. Doesn't he look like he's in pain?

My husband has a door knocker collection. I kid you not. ;-)
