Click to enlargeTaken somewhere in Acadia National Park during our recent trip to the States, probably by the Seawall tidepools given the sailboat in the background. Some of these cairns mark the way for hikers, but I think this one was put together by a passing family. Hopefully since it wasn't directly on a trail no one will confuse it for one of the official ones.

I love the artistic expression some folks put into these creative cairns, and am sad when park rangers must take them apart so some dimwit does not get confused and walk off the side of a cliff thinking s/he is following the trail. Note the delicate balance of the little, rounded rocks -- it looks as though the whole thing could come tumbling down if just one of the small stones was removed. Thanks for capturing it! And yes, I think that is Seawall. It is a popular place for such creative cairn construction!

Looks like a person to me
We see lots of these along the seawall in Vancouver, Canada. People enjoy trying to make them as difficult as possible to stay together. Lovely shot and I like how the sailboat is sort of misty looking in the background. :D

I love those cairns. I made one at the side of a lake in canada and it was remarkably difficult. And mine was only tiny!

We see these on the beach quite often. I find them all just fascinating. Great b&w shot.
