Tidal Pool, Mount Desert Island

Wow, my photos are uploading a lot more quickly without those borders. Too bad I really like to have them.
.
These were taken (in full manual! Yay me, I'm finally getting the hang of this whole "photography" thing) at a tidal pool in Acadia National Park at low tide. What a cool place, very eery in the thick fog. It was a real highlight of the trip. Actually, most of Maine was a real highlight of the trip. As we drove back to New Hampshire (no slouch itself), Jay and I were trying (in vain I'm afraid) to figure out how we could finance a summer house and a way to work remotely (for him, I already telecommute) so we could spend summers in it!
.
PS Can you find the critter hiding in the second photo? He was awfully cute, but quite shy.

Glad your enjoying yourself. Great pictures and I sure hope you can figure out how to get a summer house there. That would be awesome :)

Way to go on the manual!
Is it a frog?

Ah, Maine. What a beautiful place. You really did capture some great shots. Love that starfish pic.

Nope, not a frog :).

Had to enlarge the picture, after you challenged me! There's a very rock-looking, green crab there. Hiding in plain sight!

A crab in camouflage! Great shots ...

Love the sandy rocks. The sky is so low you can touch it.

I'm so jealous you two got to meet. :) I'd love to meet BOTH of you! The pictures are lovely, but you REALLY want a vacation home in the Rockies. Just sayin'. ;)

It is a crab... I thought so! Super cool.

My inlaws love collecting creatures from the ocean. They have a fabulous collection of shells and starfish - your little guy here is very small and cute!

Hope you're still having fun on vacation!

There are several live creatures in that shot! Barnacles - those sharp white things that look like volcanoes - are animals. They just seal up when the water goes out with the tide. Also in the picture are winks - periwinkles - those tiny little snails in the pointy shells. Also living things. And yes, the crab. He was very handsome indeed! I am so glad you had a chance to enjoy my little corner of the world!

Tide pools are great. I actually got to see them in Acadia National Park as a kid - now I'm more familiar with the ones here in California.

Oh - now I see! Hiding in plain sight - well spoken!

The winks were quite cute but barnacles bring bad connotations of boat scrubbing - my parents used to keep their boat on the Hudson River when they lived in NY, and would swear that whatever holds those suckers onto the hull has to be the strongest glue known to man!

We dream about beach houses and mountain cabins...:)

Awesome shots! Seems like everybody's heading up to New England these days. Lisa at Lisa's Chaos just got back from Maine, and Sandy Carlson is taking her daughter to a camp in New Hampshire today (you might be able to catch her if you hurry, but if you miss her in NH, she only lives just down the road in CT). And Lisa's son is apparently quite the expert at spotting tiny starfish like this one.

Oh, and if you really want borders around your photos, you can create the CSS to put them around your images in your template. I'm not exactly an expert, but I've managed to work that much out. They won't be anything fancy mind you, but you'll have a "frame".

Praying Mantis - they terrify me when they get big! I like the star fish - very cute!

I absolutely adore the starfish. I've never seen one alive. I NEVER would have seen the crab in that picture! Great shots. I am glad your trip is a good one!

Gorgeous shots. How I pined away for east coast seaweed, rocks and sea life when I lived in Toronto. Now I pine away for highrise office towers, subways and the vibe of the Big City :-P

Great photos. Growing up the coast of Maine was one of my favorite places to visit. The tidal pools were always a fun place to explore.

The first photo evokes a sense of serenity..love the second pic of the crab in camouflage. Actually never saw a green one in my life.

I see the crab now - I thought it was a praying mantis at first
