Click to enlargeI pulled one out of the archives for this week's Sepia Scenes, since what could be more appropriate for sepia than an old-time kitchen. This one is a model from a musuem about 40 minutes out of Victoria, BC in Canada. During a family trip to the Pacific Northwest (one of my favorite parts of the world) about two years ago Jay and I were lucky to be able to sneak off for a weekend in Victoria while my parents watched the kids. While we were there, we spent an afternoon hiking near the town of Sooke, and then stopped by this really great little museum, the Sooke Region Museum, which was full of models and diaramas and full-scale mockups which really made the history of the area come alive.
I love the way they've left a load of unfolded laundry in a basket on the counter - a timeless touch if ever there was one.

What an amazing contrast between your header and your sepia for this week. I like the convenience of modern appliance but love the warmth and comfort of the older kitchens.
look how small it is! That would be a food pantry in a home now.
I love old, retro, etc. in just about everything! I especially love old kitchens like this. Very cool sepia, Robin!
What a great photo. I can't imagine having such a small kitchen, yet that was probably a desired kitchen for the time!

It couldn't be better! I love looking at museums that have rooms set up like it used to be.
What a teeny kitchen it is! I think we'd starve if I had to cook in there.

Looks like my kitchen in the attic apartment I lived in for a few years in Cambridge, MA. Except without the dainty curtains and wallpaper, just the old appliances.
My husband and I went to Victoria for a visit, pre-kids. Very pretty area.

Big contrast between your kitchen. The sepia one is seriously crowded too. Laundry in the kitchen? Ugh. Not a good mix.
I LOVE Victoria! We honeymooned there and it's one of my favorite places on earth. :)

She did her wash in the kitchen - had to boil hot water.
My Mom had one of those wringer washes and at about five years old I decided I could push the clothes through when she wasn't looking - caught my hand in the wringer.
This was a perfect sepia subject!
I also love how they framed that picture to look out on an old (school or church)building.

Oh Robin this is achingly beautiful. I can almost smell the freshly laundered clothes mingling with... whatever's in the oven.
Oh Sooke, I've been there and it was one of the best vacations my husband and I have ever had. What a cool picture.
I can't help comparing your header photo and its older sibling ... different, but they each have their own charms.
It's amzing that you can tell a lot from a small island like this everyday.

I love it! My SIL used to cook on a stove like that until about 5 years ago when it finally bit the dust.
The laundry is the perfect touch.
This old time lady well remember the old time kitchen.
Imagine my childhood on a museum.
My mother always made her laundry in the basement though. It was a revolution when they bought the washing machine and she did not have to rub the skin of her finger knuckles
on the washing board.
The smell of sun dried laundry.., I miss that.
